A bookkeeper and an accountant play different roles in the financial operation of your company.

A bookkeeper provides daily tracking of financial transactions and gives direct support to your business by ensuring your records are timely and accurate.  The bookkeeper might only provide a monthly review of the work completed by one of your employees or they might provide full bookkeeping services. The bookkeeper may also provide advisory services for improvements in daily activities, document management, and cloud storage.

An accountant relies on your company’s bookkeeping to prepare your tax filings, conduct audits, and serve in an advisory role that informs you of the best financial decisions to make about how your business operates.  The bookkeeper will then help you to follow and correctly report on those recommendations.

It should not be an either/or decision. Bookkeepers and accountants are both critical for the financial health of a company so building a relationship between you, your bookkeeper and your accountant is key to a solid financial future for your business.
